In leadership, it is easy to become consumed by budgets, enrollment, fundraising, facilities, strategy and results.
All of those things matter.
But students rarely remember the strategic plan.
They remember the teacher who believed in them.
The coach who stayed after practice.
The administrator who knew their name.
The counselor who noticed when something wasn't right.
And the leader who created a culture where those moments could happen.
Great schools need strong strategy and responsible stewardship. But those things ultimately serve a much greater purpose: creating an environment where young people are known, challenged, supported and loved.
The numbers matter. The mission matters more.
That's true in education—and I think it's true in leadership everywhere.
